Parents of children who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall are asked to review and follow these procedures:
March 6 – 24 - Parents will be able to pick up the Kindergarten Registration packets in the office at either Hempfield or East Elementary Schools or on-line at Kindergarten Registration Documents
April 4,5,6 - Parents are asked to return the completed Kindergarten Registration packets, birth certificate, immunization record and proof of residency (Proof of residency -Lease/rental agreement or mortgage/bank agreement. Plus a utility bill and photo ID of parent or guardian.) To Hempfield Elementary School during the following dates and times:
8:30 – 4:00
11:00am – 1:00pm
8:30 – 4:00
3:30 – 5:30pm
At this time parents will be asked to schedule an appointment to bring their Kindergarten student into Hempfield for screening May 2, 3, and 4.
May 2-4 - During the May formal registration, children will proceed through several assessment stations, including hearing and speech as well as skill development.
Kindergarten student minimum entry age is five (5) years old by September 1st. The district policy permits exceptions to this age requirement provided that basic readiness criteria can be demonstrated to district personnel. Parents must bring proof of child’s age (birth certificate) and immunization records.
Pennsylvania law requires that each child entering school must have the following immunizations:
·Four doses each of tetanus and diphtheria. One dose must be given on or after the child’s 4th birthday. If all 4 doses were given prior to the child’s 4th birthday – the child must get a 5th dose of tetanus and diphtheria.*
· Three doses each of polio and hepatitis B
· Two doses each of mumps and measles **
·One dose of rubella (German measles)**
· Two doses of varicella (Chicken Pox) or a documented history of the disease from the child’s physician.
*Usually given as DTP or DTaP or DT or Td
**Usually given as MMR
No child will be allowed to register without both proof of age and a complete immunization record.

Please note: Your child’s shot records must be completed by the first day of school. Children will not be permitted to enter if their immunizations are not completed; however we encourage you to register them.
